Kotak 811 Review 2026: Is It Still the Best Zero Balance?

The Kotak 811 Savings Account is one of India's most popular digital-first banking products, primarily known for its "zero balance" requirement and instant online setup.

As of April 2026, here is the breakdown of the features, types, and how the account works:

1. Key Features & Benefits

  • Zero Balance: No penalty for not maintaining a minimum balance in the standard 811 Digital variant.

  • Instant Opening: You can open the account in about 3–5 minutes using your Aadhaar and PAN via the Kotak Mobile App.

  • Virtual Debit Card: Get a free virtual Visa/RuPay debit card instantly for online shopping and UPI.

  • ActivMoney (Sweep-in): A standout feature that automatically moves surplus funds above a certain threshold (usually ₹25,000) into a Fixed Deposit (FD) for 180 days. This allows you to earn FD-like interest (up to ~7%) while keeping the money liquid.

Interest Rate: The standard savings interest rate is 2.50% p.a. (accrued daily and paid quarterly).

Is it right for you?

If you want a secondary account for UPI transactions or a primary account where you don't have to worry about maintaining a balance, the 811 Digital is excellent. If you want higher interest on your idle savings, make sure to enable the ActivMoney feature in the app.
